Notes from Newbiscuit
A small experiment for people who suspect their life might be a bit… beige.
If you’re doing fine on paper but quietly wondering how you ended up here, this is probably for you.
Most people don’t need more motivation.
They need a clearer look at how their days are actually behaving.
I write a short, considered email about once a month. Sometimes a little more often if something’s happening. It’s not inspirational. It’s not therapeutic. It’s not designed to make you feel better while nothing changes.
In fact, if you sign up, the first thing you’ll receive is a slightly mischievous experiment. It takes one ordinary week and shows you, gently but unmistakably, what your time has really been giving back to you. These emails are designed to be a bit of a rock in your shoe, so you don’t want them every day, but sometimes you need to be reminded to stop and take your shoe off.
People usually have one of two reactions.
Either: “Oh. No wonder I’ve been feeling like this.”
Or: “I don’t want to look at this yet.”
Both are reasonable.
Who this is for
People who are capable, not broken
People who are curious, not desperate
People who are willing to be a little uncomfortable if it leads somewhere honest
Who should stay away
If you’re looking for reassurance, tidy answers, or something that helps you feel better without changing anything, this will probably irritate you… sorry.

I write a short email about once a month, sharing how I think about work, time, and the second half of life. If you sign up, the first thing you’ll receive is a small experiment called The Ordinary Week
